JBG INCREASES ETHANOL REVENUES

Jamaica Broilers Group Ltd. (JBG), which operates an ethanol dehydration plant under JB Ethanol Ltd., reported improved sales for the quarter ended January 28, 2012. Revenues from ethanol operations amounted to JMD1.076 bln ($1=JMD84.70), up from JMD769.8 mln in the preceding quarter. The ethanol segment's result rose to JMD64.4 mln from JMD57.9 mln. The company said it still has a number of contracts in place, although the US import tariff on fuel ethanol expired December 31, 2011. Under the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI), JBG was able to ship fuel ethanol, mainly made from dehydrated hydrous grades from Brazil, duty-free into the US.
