EU member-states back proposal for 'no added salt' label claims

EU member-states have unanimously backed a proposal to allow "no added salt/sodium" claims on foods, in a vote at the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health meeting last Friday, EU Food Law reports.
The proposed European Commission regulation would revise the list of approved nutrition claims in the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation (1924/2006) to lay down conditions for using the new "no added salt/sodium" claim (see FCN June 8, 2012, Page 17).
